Presentation of Quaichs At our meeting on Tuesday 7th November the Chair, Steve Thurgood, presented quaichs to the latest 2 members to compleat their Munros.  Julie Garland finished her round on Beinn Alligin on 17 September 2017, and Jim Anderson climbed his last Munro on Ben More on Mull on 30 September 2017. Congratulations to them both on achieving such a significant milestone.                         Julie is presented with her quaich               Jim gets his quaich 30th Anniversary Celebration The inaugural meeting of the Glenrothes Hillwalkers and Ramblers Club was held on 15th September 1987 with 35 people attending.  On 3rd October 2017 46 members of the Club gathered at the Gilvenbank Hotel in Glenrothes to celebrate the 30th anniversary with a buffet, a display of photographs showing the past history of the Club, a distinguished guest speaker, and a cake in the shape of a mountain.  Our speaker was Hamish Brown MBE, a professional writer, lecturer and photographer specialising in mountain and outdoor topics, and well known in hillwalking circles.  Hamish gave a fascinating talk on doing a traverse of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco with a friend, 2 mules and their local handlers. Hamish then cut the cake and drew the winning tickets for the raffle.  Judging by the photographs and their comments, the members enjoyed the evening. Two More Munro Compleatists The Club now has 2 more members who have compleated their Munros.  Julie Garland finished her last Munro on Beinn Alligin on 17 September 2017, and Jim Anderson climbed his last Munro on Ben More on Mull on 30 September 2017.  Congratulations to both, that should keep the engraver busy! Presentation of yet another Quaich At the Club meeting on Tuesday 4th July Club Chair Steve Thurgood presented Andy  Brown with his engraved quaich to mark his achievement in compleating his Munro round.  Andy was also presented with a photo album by Janice Duncan, with pictures taken over the past few years as Andy bagged his way round Scotland.  Andy’s Mum, Dad, wife and friends were there to watch proudly as Andy accepted his quaich and made a speech of thanks to the Club. Andy Brown Compleats his Munros Andy Brown became the latest Club member to compleat a round of Munros when he reached the summit of Beinn Sgritheall on Saturday 6th May in glorious weather.  As you can see the event was celebrated with family and friends by forming the traditional guard of honour with walking sticks and a glass (or two).  Congratulations to Andy for bagging 284 Munros in 10 years. Photos courtesy of Janice Duncan Ian Morris Compleats his Munros Ian Morris has becom the latest Club member to compleat his round of the Munros.  A small but select band of members met in the forest car park at South Ballachulish on the morning of Saturday 22nd October to accompany Ian to the summit of Sgorr Dhonuill.  We duly celebrated Ian’s compleation by forming the traditional guard of honour and then opening a bottle of Prosecco and several boxes of chocolate treats.  It was fitting that Ian finished on Sgorr Dhonuill, as his first Munro was its neighbour, Sgorr Dhearg, some 36 years earlier.  Congratulations and well done to Ian.   Jim Davies Compleats his Munros Club Member Jim Davies compleated his round of 282 Munros on The Saddle on the 13th August 2016.  Jim was duly presented with an engraved quaich by Club Chair Steve Thurgood at the Club Meeting on Tuesday 4th October.  Congratulations to Jim on becoming the latest member to compleat. Presentation of Quaich Sandra Smith was presented with her quaich by Chair Steve Thurgood at the last Club meeting on Tuesday 2 August.  The quaich is in recognition of Sandra’s achievement in compleating all 282 Munros. Presentation of Cheque to Assynt Mountain Rescue Team Jim Anderson presented a cheque for £551.57 to Sue Agnew, the Assynt Mountain Rescue Team Leader, during the Club weekend at Achmelvich Beach Youth Hostel.  The funds were raised by Club members over a period of 18 months.  You can read more of this story on the Grough website here.  Thanks to Andrew Frame for the photos. Sandra Smith Compleats Her Munros On Sunday 29 May 2016, Club member Sandra Smith compleated her Munros on Carn Mor Dearg.  Congratulations to Sandra on her outstanding achievement.  She will be presented with the traditional quaich by Club Chair Steve Thurgood at a future Club meeting.
